This months special features common plasterboard related questions:<\/p>\n
Yes! You can apply brick tiles on to plaster board using a rapid setting adhesive.<\/p>\n
Most adhesive manufacturers recommend applying brick tiles directly on to dry board.<\/p>\n
Plaster boards do not need to be skimmed before adhesive is applied but it is recommended that a couple of coats of PVA are applied to seal the boards first .<\/p>\n
This is something that must always be checked with the manufacturer prior to installation.<\/p>\n
Plasterboards offer a flat, dry and stable substrate which makes installation of brick tiles easy and hassle free. Levels and coursing`s are made easier when the surface is even and free from undulations.<\/p>\n
Less adhesive will be needed when installing on to plasterboard as product is not being used up to level the surface.<\/p>\n
We would recommend either 12.5mm or 15mm thickness plasterboard for use with brick tiles. Most plasterboards are 1200mm x 2400mm this allows for 600mm centres on stud work. Providing the work is carried out by a qualified joiner and is structurally sound this type of substrate works great with brick tiles.<\/p>\n
For bonding real clay brick tiles to plasterboard, Rapid Set Adhesive is most recommended. There are many branded products available within the UK. We recommend any product that can be used with masonry. It is always worth checking the product Data Sheet prior to purchasing.<\/p>\n
Making sure the surface of the drywall is dust free and primed with a PVA is a must before installation. Dry and dusty surfaces can absorb too much moisture from the adhesive too quickly. This can lead to the adhesive failing and not sticking to the substrate in the correct way. We always recommend following the manufacturers instructions when using any rapid setting adhesive.<\/p>\n
